Annabelle 2014 A Quick Review…

Annabelle is about a creepy looking doll that becomes possessed after some some devil worshipers break into a young couple’s home and try to summon a demon. The ritual goes badly, some blood drips on the doll causing it’s evil possession.

Here’s the problems I have with it. First off, devil worshipers don’t break into homes and cast spells. They sit in their mom’s house and whine about shit all fucking day long. The stereo-type that that we need to fear devil worshipers should have died out around the time of the Salem Witch Trials. Don’t believe me? When’s the last time you heard about an act of terror or mass shooting being committed by Devil Worshipers? For true terror, you need look no further than mainstream religious extremists. But, I get it this a horror movie it’s supposed to play on our fears no matter how irrational they may be. It doesn’t really get any better from there.

But, I don’t want to completely shit all over this movie. It has some good creepy moments and I respect that. The cast earns their money, they did their job, no complaints here. Besides any movie with Alfre Woodard and Tony Amendola can’t be all bad. Annabelle Wallis as Mia Form is a delight as the young wife and mother to be.

It’s just that the movie suffers from people doing stupid things and nothing ruins a movie like a mass of stupidity from the characters. However, if you’re home alone and it’s late at night, I have no doubt this movie will creep you out. Just try real hard to ignore all the stupid things the characters do and you should be fine. And for that, I am on the bubble with this one. Watch at your own risk.
